Roasted Peppers in the Air Fryer

Roasted Peppers in the Air Fryer

I’ve recently started working on a new series of recipes, just right for warm summer evenings. One of them is a Greek appetizer called Htipiti, which needs one large roasted pepper—or two smaller ones.

Easier said than done. Traditionally, the best flavor comes from roasting them directly over a wood fire. But I wasn’t about to light the grill just for two peppers. Roasting them on the gas stove? Not a chance—I’d spend 10 minutes cooking and an hour cleaning the stovetop afterwards. The oven was an option too, but then I remembered a tip I’d seen on another food blog: roasting peppers in the air fryer.

How I Roasted the Peppers in the Air Fryer

I set the air fryer to 220°C (430°F) for 10 minutes. By the end of this first cycle, the peppers were already starting to char nicely.

I flipped them over and cooked for another 10 minutes at the same temperature. When I pulled them out, they looked beautifully roasted, just like the ones you’d get from a grill.

To make peeling easier, I placed them in a pot with a lid and let them steam for a few minutes. The skins came off almost effortlessly.

Leave the peppers to cool down. The stream makes the skin easy to remove.

The Result

The peppers turned out almost as good as those roasted on a wood fire. They had that smoky sweetness I was hoping for, but without any of the mess. Apart from rinsing the air fryer basket and washing a couple of dishes, my kitchen stayed spotless.

Compared to broiling, the air fryer does a slightly better job at getting the peppers evenly charred. And it’s much quicker than heating up the oven just for a small batch.

Why I’ll Keep Using This Method

✅ No more scrubbing the stovetop after roasting.

✅ Quick and efficient—perfect for one or two peppers.

✅ Great flavor, very close to traditional methods.

How to Use Air Fryer Roasted Peppers

For me, this batch went straight into making Htipiti, a creamy Greek dip with roasted peppers, feta, and olive oil.

But you can also:

✅ Serve them with olive oil, vinegar, and herbs as a light appetizer.

✅ Blend into a sauce or dip.

✅ Add to sandwiches, pasta, or salads.

Final Thoughts

This little experiment convinced me: roasting peppers in the air fryer is not just convenient, it’s actually better than using the oven. For small batches, it’s the perfect solution—no smoke, no mess, just delicious roasted peppers ready in 20 minutes.
